Illustration

With a natural talent for drawing Hulanicki created from a young age exceptional illustrations which won her many awards from the The Royal Drawing Society.

Unsurprisingly, she began her working life as an illustrator, covering the collections of the couturiers of the late 1950s including Dior, Balmain, Balenciaga and creating fashion illustrations for high-end publications. In the 1960s she turned her back on couture and found her own voice, creating highly individual and distinctive illustrations which captured the youthful energy of London fashion.

Drawing is the means by which Hulanicki conveys her creativity and she has never ceased to work in the medium; from Biba in the 1960s and 1970s, her own label in the 1980s, and newspapers and publications from the 1990s onwards.

It is a discipline she continues to this day, producing illustrations for individuals, fashion companies, and film studios.
